Counselling for medical PG students extended

Counselling for medical PG students extended

New Delhi: The Supreme Court (SC), in a bid to help out a large number of students seeking admission in post-graduate courses under the all-India quota students, has extended the entire schedule of counselling that had ended on Thursday last.
Ironically, while it was the second round of counselling that ended on Thursday, as many as 14 states have not even completed their first round of counselling.
Several students, led by one Naval Asija, had sought the court’s intervention in the matter. A bench comprising justices RV Raveendran and Gyan Sudha Misra rescheduled the calendar for the second round of counselling.
As per the SC order, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) will now announce the counselling timing on its website on May 20.By 5 pm on May 27, the court directed all the states to update DGHS on the number of vacancies available due to students not joining or surrendering their seats in the ‘all-India quota’.
DGHS will notify the total number of vacancies on June 1. The judges directed DGHS to conduct the extended second round of counselling from June 2 to 12 in Delhi only.
SC has fixed June 20 as the last date for students to join colleges allotted to them. A day later, on June 21, the bench said the vacant ‘all-India quota’ seats may be deemed to be surrendered to the states.
June 30 is the final deadline for students to join their allotted courses.
