SKMU gears up to unlock varsity campus

DUMKA: With mounting pressure from the student community, the SKM University administration has finally decided to unlock its campuses and the varsity headquarter with the help of district administration.

As part of their scheduled programme, the ABVP members organized a dharna right at the official residence of the vice chancellor Victor Tigga on Thursday to press for revival of academic activities in all the 13 constituent colleges and post graduate departments been withheld for over one and a half months due to ongoing indefinite strike of non-teaching employees association to press for their long-pending demands including the implementation of the fifth pay scale and payment of arrears.

The agitating non-teaching employees have enforced closure of colleges and post graduate departments apart from the varsity headquarter since March 16 thereby paralyzing the academic activities completely to which both the state government and the varsity administration seems to be indifferent.

HRD director Anjani Kumar Srivastava, it may be mentioned here had directed the varsity administration about a fortnight ago to ensure restoration of academic activities on the campuses.

The non-teaching employees association has taken strong exception to the the HRD director's directive and has resolved not to allow functioning of colleges until their demands are fulfilled.

Tigga said implementation of fifth pay scale to non-teaching employees has been withheld by the HRD department and the varsity administration does not have any say in the same particularly after sending all relevant information of individual employees.
