Toonz, CMC tie up for animation training biz

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: While tens of thousands of school-going youngsters may be eyeing openings at engineering and medical courses, Tata group company CMC and animation training major Toonz Academy based here, are targeting their peers who may not be top-shots in academics, but have imagination and creativity in good measure.

Toonz Academy and CMC have tied up to offer the former’s animation, digital arts and multimedia courses through CMC’s centers across the country.

CMC’s head for education and training, Rajendra Prasad K says the foray into animation training is significant for his company, considering the buoyant prospects for animation experts in the coming days. CMC presently has about 10,000 students attending its various courses that cover subjects in the technology domain, including software and hardware courses, as well as soft skills.

To start with, CMC will offer the animation courses at 15 of its centers, in the east and south regions, and expects to enlist about 1,000 students in the first year.

The 15 animation training centers of CMC will supplement the 12 animation training centers that the Toonz Academy is presently operating. Toonz Academy president N Radhakrishnan Nair said his academy had been growing on a franchisee model and that the association with CMC marked a new beginning.

He said Toonz Academy would handle the quality aspects of the animation training being offered at CMC centers and that the academy would also train faculty for the same. Nair said those aspiring for a career in animation need not necessarily be good in drawing, but required to have imagination and aptitude for the same, adding that demand for animators had again picked up over the last six months.
