Description

IELTS is the International English Language Testing System. IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is an English Language Proficiency test that is required to be taken by non-native students for study in countries where the medium of instruction is English. IELTS is best known exam for admission into universities, secondary, vocational and training. IELTS is accepted by universities in UK, Australia, New Zealand and Canada. IELTS is jointly managed by University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations, British Council, and IDP: IELTS Australia.

IELTS is the International English Language Testing System which measures the ability of the student to communicate in English across all four language skills – listening, reading, writing and speaking – for people who intend to study or work where English is the language of communication.

Students can take IELTS test through out year on one of the 48 fixed test centers. Local test centers may offer the test on some or all of these dates and you will need to contact your test centre to known on which dates they will be offering IELTS.

Complete IELTS Pattern/syllabus:

All the candidates will be taking the same Listening and Speaking Modules. There is a choice between Academic and General Training in the Reading and Writing Modules. The format of the test is as under.

  • The concept of IELTS Listening Test is basically used to measure the ability of the students to hear a conversation (for example someone wanting to buy something), a general talk, often giving you some kind of information – for example about a town or museum, A conversation related to learning or training, and an educational or training lecture. Recordings are played only once. The Listening lasts 30 minutes. There are four sections and 40 questions in all.
  • The concept of IELTS Reading Test is basically a three passages academic test. These come from books, magazines and newspapers, and at least one of these presents an argument (arranges facts to persuade you of something), which you must show you have understood. The GT reading has a wider mixture of material, mostly the sort of thing that someone living in an English-speaking country would come across every day. The Reading takes 60 minutes. It has three parts, and like the listening, has a total of 40 questions.
  • The concept of IELTS Writing Section is of two sections under this Writing test is conducted.

    1. Under IELTS General Training Writing Section the students are alotted 2 tasks (150 and 250 words) to be answered in 60 Minutes

  • The concept of IELTS Speaking Section helps interviewer to ask questions from students, like where you live and your hobbies or other personal details. The student have to speak for some time on a particular topic, though the candidate is given a limited time period to prepare what they are going to say, and the final few minutes are spent in a more general conversation with the interviewer. The Speaking is somewhere between 10 minutes and a quarter of an hour.

Application Procedure:

  • The candidates must apply to the nearest test centre to take an IELTS test prior to the test date.
  • The candidate must submit the IELTS application form in the nearest test centre with the test fee, along with two passport sized photographs and a photocopy of your passport.
  • The confirmation date and time will be forwarded by test center, when candidates want to take IELTS test.

You will need to carry the passport or other identification number, you have mentioned in the admission form, while taking the test.

  • It is important for all the candidates who are appearing in the exam first time or second He/She should be prepare for IELTS exam even if they are a master in the English language. The fees for the test are high and a person who achieves a low score in IELTS will have to wait for at least another three months, before he or she can appear for the test again. Thus, even if you have good command over the use of English, it is best to spend at least two weeks for IELTS preparation.
  • Before taking the exam one should be aware of the format of the test and the types of questions that are usually asked in the IELTS test.
  • The students can prepare through various IELTS practice tests and sample tests that are available online and as part of the various study material packages. Through the different available and accessible means one can achieve a high band score. Here are some important tips and strategies that will help you to better equip yourself for IELTS:
  • There is no negative marking in IELTS, so attempt all questions.
  • Before attempting the exam , it is better/suggestable for the students to attend four-day IELTS preparatory course offered by the British Council.
  • One should always carry the entire required document for the exam before leaving for the test. This includes:
  • Original and valid passport,
  • Letter containing your roll number and test venue, and
  • Fee receipt.
  • Candidates can use only pencils for listening and reading sections. So, do not forget to take the material with you.
  • Students must always remember the time limit allotted to them for the exam, so that you will not miss question because of shortage of time.
  • Listening to a recording over speakers and through cordless headphones are two distinct experiences. It is best to check with your test centre to know what methods do they are going to use for the test.
  • The student should always remember that the recording will be played only once, so listen very carefully as the recordings are played.
