Each year there is more competitiveness, which increases exam intensity. According to the article, "more than 1.2 million applications fight each year for roughly 11,000 spots at 23 different IITs. It typically takes two extensive years of diligent training to pass this admission exam. There are over 32,000 inquiries for the exam each month.
After the IIT JEE test, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) civil service examinations are the second-toughest exams in India according to this ranking.
The eighth-ranked Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is the third-toughest test conducted in India. The average length of time to prepare for the GATE exam is six months. According to the study, around 8 lakh to 1 million people apply for the exam, but only 16 to 18% of those people are chosen to sit for it.
The hardest test in the world is the 9-hour Gaokao test in China. More than 12 million people sign up to take the examination each year. The Mensa test from England is ranked second, ahead of the GRE test.
