NEET score is essential to get an admission in India but to pursue MBBS abroad, qualifying in NEET examination alone is sufficient. The NEET eligibility criteria was authorized by the National Testing Agency in accordance with the Indian Medical Council Act-1956 and the Dentists Act-1948 as amended in 2018. NEET exam is conducted for nationwide MBBS seats allotment on the basis of the ranks and the reservation categories of the medical aspirants.

The score required for admission in Indian medical colleges including MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and VETERINARY courses depends on the highest marks obtained and the number of candidates, also including their +2 marks as well as their reservation category. For MBBS abroad, NEET qualification alone is sufficient. A NEET qualified student is valid to enroll in abroad medical colleges before three years from the passing date.

 

Eligibility Criteria for MBBS abroad

➢     Students must have completed +2 or 12th standard from a regular board.

➢     Students that studied under open board or correspondence classes are not eligible to study MBBS abroad.

➢     The student should have Biology, Physics and Chemistry as core subjects.

➢     General category students +2 / Intermediate must have 50% of total PCB marks.

➢     For SC/ST/OBC category students must have an aggregate of 40% or above in PCB.

➢     English should also be a compulsory subject.

➢     The student must be 17 years or above age as on 31st December of the year in which the student seeking admission.

 

Age limitation for MBBS abroad

 

The Honorable Supreme Court of India under Writ Petition (Civil)-99/2017 dt: 31-03-2017 has announced that the candidates that are above the age of 25 years may apply for NEET-2020 examination on provisional grounds. The maximum age limit of 25 years as prescribed under the Regulations on Graduate Medical Education, 1997 vide amendment dated 22.01.2018, was challenged and the verdict of Supreme Court vide interim order dt: 29-11-2018, candidates who are 25 years and above were provisionally permitted to appear in NEET-UG subject to the final outcome of the said matters.

The candidates age limitation for NEET-2021, for General (UR)/ General –EWS/ SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwD Categories born on or before 31/12/2004

Minimum marks required in NEET for MBBS abroad

●      General – Unreserved → 50%

●      General – Unreserved-PwD → 45%

●      SC, ST, OBC → 40%

●      SC, ST, OBC–PwD → 40%

The cut off marks percentile varies every year and the percentile score in order to qualify NEET depends on the highest marks obtained in that particular year. But we can have approximate cut-off marks for every category.

 

●      General (UR)—110-130 marks

●      General (UR) PwD—115-125 marks

●      SC/ST/OBC—90-100 marks

●      SC/ST/OBC—PwD—90-100 marks

 

 

Is it essential to qualify NEET for studying MBBS abroad?

NO. As per the new rules announced by MCI, NEET qualifying is a must to practice medicine in India and to be eligible to sit for the Screening test. But for all the candidates who are willing to practice outside India NEET eligibility is not required.

 

NEET 2021 Qualifying marks to study MBBS abroad

 

NEET qualifying marks depend on the highest marks obtained in that particular NEET examination and the cut off marks also depend on the similar criteria. The NTA announces the NEET results while simultaneously announcing the cut off marks as well as minimum qualifying marks for each category.

NTA on NEET cut off marks

Even NTA could not get some clarity on the cutoff and qualifying marks for that particular year before announcing the NEET examination results. NEET cut-off will be based on various factors such as:

●      Number of seats

●      The difficulty level of question paper

●      Total number of test-takers

●      Total number of qualified candidates

●      Previous year cut-offs
