GMAT vs GRE: here’s what MBA applicants need to know

GMAT vs GRE: here’s what MBA applicants need to know

A great candidate for an MBA school requires several components, such as letters of recommendation, personal statements, and a compilation of relevant professional experience. Furthermore, many candidates aim to obtain a high GMAT or GRE score in order to increase their chances of acceptance.

The GMAT and GRE are without a doubt the most popular assessments amongst school of business applicants. In the last decade  the option of submitting an application without test scores has grown in popularity. As per GMAC's 2021 Survey, 45 percent of programmes skipped acceptance examinations in 2021.

However, exam being waived aren't merely a response to the COVID-19 pandemic's problems. Numerous universities and colleges intend to keep their novel policies in place, which include top-ranked schools such as the Michigan State University's Broad College of Business, University of Washington's Foster School of Business and Fordham University's Gabelli School of Business.

MBA schools now are using adaptive testing practises. Only 34% of the institutions on Fortune's 2022 list of the top online MBA programmes require exam scores.  42 percent of online schools in Fortune's list needed GMAT or GRE exam results from candidates last year.

According to John Fulmer even if more colleges are no longer demanding a test candidates are still submitting the score to get that competitive advantage. He says that a high GMAT or GRE score can help alleviate worries about intellectual deficiencies such as poor grades.

The situation of standardised exams in management university applications upheaval, Fortune chatted with two experts to learn what MBA students should anticipate for the 2023 applications season.

the GMAT: test-optional policies or just take it?

The GMAT continues to be the most asked exam for MBA school enrollment.  As per GMAC data, GMAT results are provided four times more frequently than GRE marks amongst MBA applicants.

This is understandable considering that the GMAT is meant for management college applications while the GRE is a more generic test for university's graduate admittance. However, more business schools will recognize either the GMAT or the GRE, and an increasing number of institutions will accept Executive Assessment results, according to Fulmer.

As per GMAC's 2022 Prospective Students Survey, slightly more than half (56 percent) of school of management applicants feel admissions examinations like the GMAT and GRE increase the impartiality and openness of business school applications. Other characteristics, like as GMAT or GRE scores, are viewed as trustworthy predictors of success by certain students. Essays, reference letters, the interviews, and appraisal of past job and educational qualifications are among these variables. Eliminating exam requirements also broadens the application pool for individuals who lack the time and money to prepare for the GMAT or GRE.

However, given the significance of a great batch to the MBA programme, some students consider the entrance exam as a vital criteria for constructing a cohort. According to that poll, 59 percent of business school hopefuls believe admissions exams reflect the school's emphasis on the performance of students admitted.

According to the 2020 Prospective Students Survey, overseas students see GMAT and GRE score criteria favourably. Sixty-six percent of foreign candidates polled believe admissions examinations are an effective approach to choose which individuals to accept.

Entrance exams are commonly used to predict how well a student would achieve in the classroom, and business school setting. If a student is thinking about applying to a highest conventional MBA school, they are much more likely to take the GMAT or GRE to demonstrate their preparation and skill.

The exam exemptions were first used for those who started in 2020, but they've not graduated yet in the framework of a two-year MBA programme. So data on the benefits and drawbacks of not evaluating is still being compiled by schools.

Manage your rage before it rules you

Manage your rage before it rules you

We've all experienced fury, either as a passing nuisance or as packed rage. Rage is a fully natural and, in most cases, acceptable emotional state. However, when it becomes toxic and out of hand, it may cause issues at work, in relationships, and in daily life interactions. Rage might feel like you're at the whim of a volatile and overpowering feeling.

What is anger?

According to Charles Spielberger, PhD, a psychology scientist who studies anger as a human emotion. He says anger is "an human emotion that ranges in magnitude from moderate annoyance to severe wrath and violence." When you are upset, your breathing and heart rate rise, as do your numbers of energy chemicals, adrenaline, and noradrenaline.

Rage can be triggered by both intrinsic and extrinsic factors. You may be furious at an individual (such as a coworker or boss) or incident (such as a traffic jam or a cancelled trip), or you may be upset as a result of fretting or brooding over personal concerns. Anger can be triggered by memories of painful or upsetting situations.

Letting out the anger:

Responding violently is the instinctual, intuitive method to show anger. Rage is a normal, evolutionary adaptation to dangers; it generates strong, often violent sentiments and behaviours that enable us to fight and defend ourselves when assaulted. As a result, a certain level of rage is required for human existence.

Individuals cope with their furious sentiments through a number of conscious and unconscious mechanisms. There are three strategies: revealing, concealing, and relaxing. The finest approach to communicate rage is in an authoritative, rather than hostile, manner. To do so, you must learn how to express your demands and how to get them satisfied without harming others. Being confident does not imply being forceful or demanding; rather, it implies respecting oneself and others.

Rage can be controlled before it can be turned or redirected. This occurs when you suppress your wrath, quit thinking about that as well, and concentrate on something constructive. The goal is to control or restrain your anger and redirect it into more beneficial action. The problem with this sort of reaction is that if it is not allowed to show itself outside, your wrath might shift inward—on yourself. Anger directed inward can result in hypertension, increased blood pressure, and depression.

Anger management

Rage therapy is to lessen both your deep reactions and the chemical stimulation caused by anger. You can't just ignore, or change the something or someone who irritate you, so you can learn to regulate your emotions.

Strategies to keep anger at bay

Relaxation

Relaxation techniques, such as steady respiration and soothing images, can aid in the reduction of furious sensations.  Literature and classes are available that may teach you relaxation methods, and once you've learned them, you can use them in any scenario. If you're in a relationships with a hot-tempered spouse, it could be a great idea for one or both of you to master certain strategies.

Intellectual reorganisation

Explicitly put, this entails altering your way of thinking. Anger causes people to cuss, swear, or use very colourful language that reflects their inner feelings. When you're furious, your thoughts might become excessive and theatrical. Replace these irrational thoughts with more sensible ones. Instead of telling yourself, "oh, it's bad, it's terrible, everything's wrecked," remind yourself, "it's irritating, and it's normal that I'm unhappy about it, but it isn't the end of the story, and being angry won't cure anything either."

Problem deciphering

Occasionally our rage and irritation are the result of very genuine and unavoidable challenges in our life. It's not like all anger is misdirected, and it's frequently a good, natural reaction to these challenges. There seems to be a societal idea that every issue has a resolution, which adds to our disappointment when we discover that's mostly untrue. The ideal mindset to apply to such a scenario is to concentrate on how you manage and tackle the issue rather than on coming up with a solution.

Healthier interaction

Anger causes individuals to leap to assumptions and act on them, and some of those judgments might be highly erroneous. Slow down and think over your comments if you're in a heated debate. Think thoroughly over what you really want to say before saying it. Simultaneously, listen closely to what the other individual is feeling and clear your head before responding.

Altering your surroundings

Allow oneself to rest. Organize certain "personal time" for periods of the day which you realize are pretty intense.

So overall these fundamental strategies and emotional processing methods should help you keep you life free from unwanted anger and lead a much more peaceful life!

CUET 2022 and NEET-UG 2022 registrations extended

 CUET 2022 and NEET-UG 2022 registrations extended

Some results were announced this week, certain tests were postponed, and some test organisations and professors were accused of not helping Indian students. Here's a rundown of what transpired in the education industry this week, from the prolongation of the CUET 2022 registration deadline to requests for a deferral of the NEET PG 2022 test.

The application date for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) 2022 has been extended by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Previously, the application window would have closed on May 6, but now hopefuls will be allowed to apply until May 22. Those who have not yet submitted an application for the test can do so at cuet.samarth.ac.in.

The registration due date has been prolonged, as has the due date for paying the registration fee. The registration fee can be paid until 11:50 p.m. on May 22. From May 25 through May 31, a rectification window will be open.

The NEET-UG enrollment due date has been postponed to May 15, 2022, at 9 p.m. The deadline to pay the processing fee is May 15 at 11:50 p.m. Previously, the deadline to apply was May 6. The timeline has been prolonged in light of the public notification issued on May 1 requiring all medical school enrollment to be based on NEET-UG 2022 scores. According to Section 14 of the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine Act, 2020, all medical schools controlled by this Act will have an unified NEET (UG) for admittance to bachelor studies.

Indian medical students

Many Indian young learning doctors who returned after Russia's intervention in Ukraine claim that some of their lecturers feel they represent New Delhi's 'pro-Russia' stance. Several students reported they were subjected to assault and harsh treatment by Ukrainian forces as they attempted to flee the war-torn east European boarders.

Some students also stated that they had contacted public officials multiple times but that their future remains uncertain. Most of the students have already paid  their present term tuition since Ukrainian institutions have stated that they would be unable to attend online courses if they do not do so.

However, young doctors from across India have petitioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intercede and reschedule the test, which is planned for May 21, alleging a conflict with the ongoing NEET PG 2021 consultation.
