DU admissions: switch towards entrance for the process of UG admission

DU admissions: switch towards entrance for the process of UG admission

The admission process for Delhi University will also be entrance based, from the 2022-23 academic year onwards.  Earlier, the admission was merit based, for all the UG courses under DU. The Executive Council declared that the entrance will be carried either through Central University Common Entrance Test (CUCET) or Delhi University Common Entrance Test (DUCET). The further details on the entrance will be updated by the University, very soon itself.

The admission for UG courses, which is based on the marks of 12th standard, was being opposed by people, in the previous years. The main reason was the merit list, based on marks, which will deny opportunity for low scored candidates, to seek admission in the University. Not only in DU, the mark based admission system gets criticized in all Universities, in admission process for UG as well as PG courses. The  DU admission process, was challenged for the previous years, just because that the students under Kerala Board have an upper hand in getting admission, in the past years. In this context, the DU has decided to switch to entrance for UG admission process.

The official declaration on CUCET/ DUCET was released on December 07th, by the Executive Council. In order to determine the admission process, the University had formed a panel of experts, with nine members, including the VC of the University. The council held their meeting on December 10th, which eventually decided to change the pattern of admission. Regarding the entrance, Yogesh Singh, the Vice Chancellor of the Delhi University, stated that the entrance is conducting to increase the objectivity in the admission process, along with ensuring the credibility among students to stand as unbiased. Moreover, he said that the entrance is planning as two sections, like general aptitude test and subject-based paper. However, the further details regarding CUCET/ DUCET will be updates shortly, by the University officials.
