Revised Canadian Work Permit Rules Address Labor Shortage, Spouses and Family Members Eligible.

Revised Canadian Work Permit Rules Address Labor Shortage, Spouses and Family Members Eligible.

The Canadian Government has decided to ease its work permit rules to combat the ongoing labor shortage in Canada. New rules will allow spouses and family members of permanent residents to come and work in Canada.

Sean Fraser, Canadian Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, announced the faster temporary resident visa (TRV) processing and more relaxed application measures to make it easier for families to reunite and support each other once in Canada.

The Canadian Government has announced the following measures:

  1. Fast temporary resident visa(TRV) processing times for spousal applicants.

  2. New and dedicated processing tools.

  3. New open work permit for spousal and family class applicants.

  4. Open work permit extensions for open work permit holders expire between August 1 and the end of 2023.

Minister Fraser also announced that the processing time for submitted applications has been reduced to 30 days. He also highlighted that many applicants have already been processed under these revised provisions. Currently, the approval rate stands at 93%.

In an official statement released by IRCC, Minister Fraser announced that spousal permits, as well as other open work permit holders, whose permits are set to expire between August 1 and the end of 2023, will now have the opportunity to extend their work permits for an additional 18 months. This extension option will also be available to students whose post-graduation work permits are close to expiring.
