TOEFL Scores Accepted for Canada Student Direct Stream (SDS) Applications

TOEFL Scores Accepted for Canada Student Direct Stream (SDS) Applications

Educational Testing Service has recently announced that Canada Student Direct Stream will accept TOEFL scores from August 10, 2023, for issuing study permits. TOEFL is now approved by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada for the SDS route, expanding student choices and providing institutions access to a wider pool of English-proficient applications. Canada now accepts PTE Academic for SDS applications, providing additional language testing options for students.

Canada's Student Direct Stream (SDS) program has recently included the acceptance of the TOEFL test conducted by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). The program eases the efficient processing of study permits for international students who plan to pursue their education at designated learning institutions across Canada.

In the past, only the IELTS test was accepted for the SDS route. However, the recent inclusion of the TOEFL test, well-known as the premier assessment of English-language proficiency, benefits thousands of students who annually leverage the SDS program. Additionally, educational institutions now have access to a broader range of applicants who can showcase their language abilities through this internationally recognized examination.

Starting from August 10, 2023, students from several countries, such as India, Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago, Philippines, Senegal, China, Morocco, Colombia, Vietnam, Costa Rica, Antigua and Barbuda, Pakistan, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Peru, have the opportunity to include their TOEFL iBT scores as a part of their SDS application process. This recent addition allows students from these countries to showcase their English proficiency through the TOEFL examination.

Furthermore, along with the TOEFL test, Canada will now also accept the PTE Academic test for Student Direct Stream applications. This expanded acceptance provides prospective students with even more diverse language testing options, allowing them the flexibility to select the English proficiency assessment that best suits their skills and personal preferences.
