To put hold on private-unaided schools’ discretionary powers, the
Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Najeeb Jung on 18 December 2013 issued new
guidelines for nursery school admissions for the session 2014-15.
In the new guidelines, the LG has scrapped the 20 percent management quota and said the admissions will be done on the basis of fixed parameters including neighbourhood criteria and sibling study in schools, which would earn points to ensure admission eligibility.
Schools have reacted sharply on the abolishment of the management quota.
The neighbourhood criteria, which seeks schools to give preference to children living within the radius of 6 kilometer from school, has been given maximum weightage with 70 points out of 100 in the open category seats.
Besides this, the applicants who have sibling studying in the same school will get 20 points and five points will be added by default in the application of girls and wards of school alumni.
According to the guidelines, 5% seats will be reserved for wards of the school employees as well as 5% seats will be kept for the girls in all the co-educational schools, which will be filled through a draw-of-lots of all the girl applicants residing within the six kilometer area around the schools.
Further, the new guidelines seek the minority schools to have 25% seats reserved, like other schools, for the economically weaker sections and disadvantaged groups of the society.
The admission process for the nursery classes in Schools across Delhi will start from 15 January 2014, and the last date for submission of applications will tentatively be 31 January.
