Assam MBBS Degree Gets Detention For NRIs by SC

Supreme Court detains Seat Reservation into MBBS degree in Assam for NRI candidates.

As per reports, the decision of the Supreme Court comes into existence to a PIL( Public Interest Litigation) filed by Advocate Asiz Zaman on Friday. The Supreme Court of India has temporarily suspended the seat quota for NRI candidates, who are being admitted into the MBBS degree in Assam.

As per reports, the decision of the SC came into existence to a PIL filed by Advocate Adiz Zaman. He questioned the NRI quota schedule that needed a deposit of Rs. 18 lakh to secure a seat quota. The SC order detains the NRI quota until further notice. This PIL also enquires about the dissimilarity in pursuing an MBBS study on the basis of the economic background despite merit.

Particularly, This year June, at the cabinet meeting of the government Of Assam, a draft to reserve 10% of seats for NRI or NRI-sponsored students in state medical colleges has passed. These students must pass the NEET – UG examination.

Earlier, the government of Assam issued the rules for medical and dental colleges in 2017 and made a revised version for 2023. ( for regulating admission in MBBS/BDS courses into 1st year)

At first, the Assam government shielded its choice, referring to the need to adjust confirmation rules because of the increase in the number of medical seats in the state.
