How to study in Europe?

Studying in Europe can be a rewarding experience, offering a wide range of educational opportunities and cultural exposure. To study in Europe, follow these general steps:

Research your options: Start by exploring different countries and universities in Europe that offer programs relevant to your field of study. Consider factors such as language requirements, tuition fees, living costs, quality of education, and available scholarships.

Choose a university and program: Once you have a list of potential universities, review their websites to gather information about the programs they offer. Look for admission requirements, curriculum details, faculty profiles, and any specific application procedures.

Check admission requirements: Review the admission criteria for your chosen program and ensure that you meet the necessary qualifications. This might include submitting academic transcripts, standardized test scores (such as the TOEFL or IELTS for English proficiency), letters of recommendation, and a statement of purpose.

Apply for scholarships and funding: Investigate the various scholarships and financial aid options available to international students in Europe. Check with the universities, government-sponsored programs, and private organizations for any grants or scholarships you may be eligible for.

Prepare your application: Collect the required documents for your application, including academic transcripts, letters of recommendation, and a well-crafted statement of purpose. Be sure to follow the specific instructions provided by each university and submit your application within the given deadlines.

Apply for a student visa: Once you receive an acceptance letter from your chosen university, research the visa requirements for studying in the specific country. Contact the embassy or consulate of that country to understand the visa application process, required documents, and any additional steps you need to take.

Plan your finances: Consider the cost of living and tuition fees in the country where you will be studying. Create a budget and explore options for funding your education, such as scholarships, part-time jobs, or financial assistance from your home country.

Arrange accommodation: Look into the housing options available to international students. Universities often offer student dormitories or can provide guidance on finding private accommodation. Start your search early to secure a suitable place to live.

Take care of practical matters: Arrange for health insurance coverage that is accepted in your destination country. If necessary, get any required vaccinations before traveling. Familiarize yourself with the local customs, transportation systems, and other practicalities of living in your host country.

Travel and settle in: Book your travel arrangements and make sure to arrive a few weeks before the start of your program to give yourself time to settle in, attend orientation programs, and get familiar with the campus and local surroundings.

Remember to check the specific requirements and processes of the universities and countries you are interested in, as they may have individual variations and additional steps.

GMC Increases MBBS Seat Count by 70 and Introduces New Super-Specialty Courses

GMC Increases MBBS Seat Count by 70 and Introduces New Super-Specialty Courses

Goa Medical College(GMC), since 2014, has been an institute to provide more seats and new courses and has more expansion plans.

They want to increase the MBBS seat number to 250 from the current 180. Also, they want to add the new MD/MS and super speciality courses. The MBBS seats were hiked in 2019, with 30 seats added for a new reserved category EWS.

Dr S.M. Bandekar, Dean of GMC, said that the college has applied to NMC to start super-speciality courses- MCh pediatric surgery, hand surgery and DM neurology.

GMC is also planning to offer the DM medical oncology speciality course. They have already started an outpatient department(OPD) for oncology patients and the construction of a regional cancer center which is to be completed by year-end. Currently, they have 14 super-speciality seats and two MCh neurosurgery seats added in 2021.

They also have 121 Postgraduate seats in different courses such as geriatric medicine, immunohematology and blood transfusion which were introduced in 2022. And now they plan to increase PG seats for surgery, anesthesiology, and psychiatry and beginning courses in emergency medicine, critical medicine and physical medicine and rehabilitation.

In 2013, six allied health science degrees were started in GMC with 50 seats. Then in 2015, the seat capacity was doubled and another ten were added in 2019 for the EWS.

A proposal has been submitted to the government for a separate building for the allied health science course. A GMC official said that the students of applied health sciences are inconvenienced sometimes, as they don't have an independent building/section, but they should focus on the fact that they get to study in Goa itself and not leave their hometown.

In 2020, GMC introduced two PG courses- Master of Occupational Therapy and Master of Physiotherapy, and now they have 14 PG seats. They further aim to start PG courses in echocardiography and physiotherapy in the oncology system.

Bihar's Purnea MBBS Seat update?

 Bihar's Purnea MBBS Seat update?

The Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) located in Bihar's Purnea district has been granted permission from the National Medical Commission (NMC) to accommodate 100 additional MBBS seats for the academic session of 2023-24. This recent approval brings the total count of government medical colleges in the state to 10, with 1,100 MBBS seats available in government institutions.

The approval for the additional MBBS seats was granted after the evaluation conducted by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of NMC. The board assessed the infrastructure, including faculty members and their experience, laboratories, library, hostel facilities, hospital infrastructure, tutors and paramedical staff.

The GMCH, Purnea, are told by NMC to start the admission process only after formal permission from the MARB.

The additional chief secretary of the Health Department, Pratyaya Amrit, supported the approval as a significant achievement in the healthcare infrastructure.

Currently, in Bihar, only the Patna Medical College and Hospital and the Darbhanga Medical College offer 150 MBBS seats each, while the remaining medical colleges in the state provide 100 MBBS seats.

This new government medical college in Purnea holds particular importance as it becomes the first of its kind in the entire Kosi region, distinct from the private medical colleges in Katihar and Kishanganj.

Furthermore, he added that the area has a significant geographical position, as it shares borders with neighbouring Nepal. People from Nepal often seek medical treatment and services in the region.

In terms of obtaining permission from the MARB for admissions, it is expected that the board will speed up the approval process. The counselling process for admissions is set to start in a fortnight, and the authorities at GMCH, Purnea, expect that the necessary permission will be granted before the admission process begins.
