Goa government retains existing education system
Panaji, Apr 1 : AICC General Sectretary and in charge of Goa desk Jagmeet Singh Brar today said the party and Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat had come out with a very balanced and dignified decision on retaining the existing system of primary education in the mother tongue and the upper primary education in English medium.
He said people in every state love their mother tongue, while English is world language spoken all over.
Mr Brar, who was on a two-day visit to the state, said this was his first visit to the state after taking over as the incharge of Goa desk, replacing B K Hariprasad in the newly-constituted congress committee.
He said during his visit, he met Congress Ministers, MLAs personally and also addressed members of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee and other frontal organisations.
He said youth Congress membership drive is on in the state in a full swing and added that he will visit all the 40 constituences in the state to strengthen the base of the party.
He expressed confidence that the Congress will win with thumping majority the state Assembly election, scheduled in 2012.
When asked about some leaders in the state speaking against the party, Mr Brar said he will consult party leaders in Goa and try to intervene as discipline has to be maintained.
When asked about going alone in the next state Assembly election in Goa, Mr Brar said, "We are at present an alliance government. It is too pre-mature to comment but we are asking party cadre to strengthen the party and walk on our own feet. We are preparing in all constituencies to go alone.''
