As compared to CAT 2012, a dip of 2,500 female candidates competing for
the desirable admission seats at the IIMs will occur this year. Although
several IIMs take measures to cover in a decent gender ratio in their
management course each year, yet CAT registrations 2013 have observed
mere a marginal increase in the applications submitted by females,
ranging from approximately 28.43% of the total registrations in 2012 to a
30% this year.
Though the number of female applicants for CAT registration is on the rise, 2013’s overall reduced registration has seen a fall in the number of women aspirants too. As informed by Rohit Kapoor (the convener of CAT-2013 besides, Professor at IIM-Indore)”Approximately one third of the total registrations are coming from women, which is quite a good number,”. He also said to have given no extra incentives at his institute in order to attract female aspirants.
On the other hand, many IIMs are attempting to improve the tilted gender ratio on their campuses. IIMs of Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Calcutta have also noticed a rise in women candidates after they pulled admission policies to draw more women. These b-schools had over 100 female students in the batch of year 2013-15.
