THE COURSE OF BJMC AND ITS SCOPE

THE COURSE OF BJMC AND ITS SCOPE

The Bachelor of Journalism and Mass Communication, abbreviated as BJMC, is one of the top courses among creative individuals. Writing forms the basis of journalism and thus, the ability to frame sentences in a distinctive manner, always expanding vocabulary, and being expressive and free from bias become a must. All of it sums down to one core strength – good communication skill. Students into writing and their parents need not worry about its scope, journalism and mass communication is much more than just working in news channels and networks.

A plethora of opportunities stand in front of those in BJMC and students can opt for whatever suits them the most from the following list:

1.      Journalism: One of the most well-known among all, the masses are generally aware or have a rough idea of what journalism includes. It focusses on broadcasting and presenting information, opinions and current affairs to as many as possible. Since it presents to the entire nation or globe, confidence is key. To be a journalist is to be bold and stand strong at all times, to master words and body-language and to communicate effectively in a way that is cannot be misinterpreted.

2.      Public Relations: Whenever dealing with a company, a person is bound to come across their PRO, or a Public Relations Officer. Our regular interaction with PRs makes the field quite self-explanatory – A PR executive manages the relationship between the outside world and the business. Connecting with an audience on a deeper level and influencing is often the goal of a PR, and they achieve so by running several public campaigns via different strategies required for the functioning and growth of an organisation. Since BJMC is all about effective communication, its training is just as effective in Public Relations.

3.      Writers: The demand for news writers is ever-growing along with technology. We do not only consume information via newspapers and today, but largely via the web. The competition among channels has been growing and the only way for them to stand out is by hiring writers with the ability to curate gripping content that holds attention. Creativity plays a huge role in being a writer, where it is an art to keep content crisp and easily understandable while containing detailed and technical information.

4.      News Analyst: This is slightly different from the above, and very few know of its availability and scope. A News Analyst is essentially someone who studies and sorts of information as the most relevant and important happenings around the world. A channel could not possibly depict everything that occurs and therefore, the job of a news analyst is quintessential in determining the success of a channel. It requires great observation skills to know what people truly care about and to cater to their needs.

5.      Event Management: Very separated from the rest of the list, the skill set required in event management is very overlapping with them. Event management will also require leadership qualities, where tasks, relationships, and the team need to be handled with zeal and creativity every day. It provides the students with a much more creative environment by exploring themes and ideas to bring something new and add value to personal and professional moments.

While journalism and event management remain the most sought-after career choices among BJMC students, know that a the herd of cattle does not need to be followed. Popular does not equate to better – you will only be best at where your passions lie. The scope of each relies on skills, hard work and credibility of the professional and the 12th grader needs to only acquaint himself/herself with the required qualities and be open to all possibilities provided by a course such as BJMC and expose themselves to its entire scope.
