IIT JEE may end
The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) has been in the news ever since the exam got over on April 11, for the errors that occurred this year. However, in a move that may spell the end of the Indian Institute of Technology-Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE), a committee comprising of directors of all IITs is planning a single national-level entrance examination for Engineering in India.
If the proposal is accepted, not only would it mean the end of IIT-JEE but also every other individual entrance tests such as the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (aieee) conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (cbse).
It is believed that because students have to appear for individual entrance examinations for various institutes, they are under a lot of pressure. This calls out for a need to have a single commonentrance test for all engineering institutes.
A flaw in the current entrance procedure is that engineering aspirants focus more on preparing for entrance examinations and do not put enough effort into preparing for their Class XII examinations as the latter is not taken into consideration for admission into various engineering colleges.
In this years IIT-JEE , there were three errors in the papers. And officials have announced that all steps will be taken to rectify them. The subject heads of physics and maths were interchanged in the physics and math section in ORS (objective response sheet). However, the serial numbers of the questions and ORS were in order. In the Hindi version, code four, question 44 was missing. Further, in section IV of paper I, the English version correctly said each row carries 2 marks, while the Hindi version said each question carries three marks. However, no student will suffer due to the misprints in the question paper. It has been declared that whichever way it will be done, will be announced. The procedures followed either before the results are prepared or before the final results are declared.

IIT-JEE (Indian Institute of Technology Joint Entrance Examination), the much awaited entrance exam for the students aspiring to seek admission into IITs is over. It was a real testing time for the students, who appeared for IIT-JEE 2010 on Sunday because the order of the subjects on the question paper did not match the sequence on the answer sheet which proved to be a major headache for the students.
The officials gave a clarification in no time but it was impossible to cover all the 1,026 centers across the country at the same time.
Now that the most searched after entrance is over the students are eying for the solutions and probable cut-off for IIT-JEE 2010. The solution to the IIT-JEE paper can be viewed at various IIT-JEE coaching websites.
Resonance Kota, a Kota based coaching center for all the leading entrance examination like IIT-JEE, BITSAT,VITEEE and AIEEE has made the keys or solution available at resonance.ac.in.
FITJEE website can also be visited to see the solved paper for the IIT-JEE 2010.
Even the probable cut-off for this year's IIT-JEE are being made available on the websites by the leading coaching centers.

IIT-JEE: More instances of ambiguity come to light
IIT-JEE: More instances of ambiguity come to light
New Delhi: Allegations of ambiguity in the IIT-JEE papers were made today including that they carried certain questions having more than one correct answer but thecomplaints were refuted by the organisers.
There were certain questions in section-II which were carrying more than one correct answers. The instructions said candidates will get partial marking for choosing partially correct answers.
These questions had no negative marks, an IIT professor claimed.
"This provision could have allowed students to exercise random choice. Without using mind, a student can randomly blacken all bubbles and stand to get full marks," the professor said.
The IIT-JEE for the first time introduced the provision for partial marking.
There were 15 such questions, carrying 45 marks, in section-II of the papers yesterday.
The papers had a few other questions where the candidates were asked to make correct matching. But there was possibility of more than one correct matching, the professor said.
However, IIT-JEE authorities denied these allegations.
"If one student blackens all the bubbles, his answer will be rejected," IIT-JEE organising chairman Prof TS Natarajan said.
The IIT-JEE today also issued a statement, clarifying that appropriate corrective actions would be taken during evaluation to take care of printing errors in the papers.
"There was a minor error in the order of printing of the subject headings (Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics) in the ORS... One of the 10-codes (namely, Code 4) of the Hindi version of Paper-1, Question 44 was not printed. Appropriate corrective action will be taken during evaluation of the papers," the statement said.
The test was conducted at 1,026 centres across the country yesterday as nearly 4.72 lakhs students attempted the examination for nearly 10000 seats in the 15 IITs, IT BHU and ISM Dhanbad.

The first step for IIT-JEE aspirants
The first step for IIT-JEE aspirants
Mumbai: This weekend, tenth standard students from across India will take the National Entrance Test conducted by various institutes, for the IIT-JEE preparatory course. For some of them, it is also a way of testing the waters and finding out whether they have what it takes to gain entry at IIT two years down the line.
Lokesh Khandelwal, director, Resonance, emphasises that the test is a good way to benchmark an individual's performance at national level in a wider pool of students from across the country, in addition to being a minimum requirement for getting admission in yearlong classroom programmes for IIT-JEE.
"A good performance in National Entrance Test indicates potential of the student towards IIT-JEE preparation and may secure scholarship in course fee of Resonance. Since the similar lot of students who are appearing in National Entrance Test now shall also be appearing in IIT-JEE two years later; it is a representative sample of prospective participants. The performance in this National Entrance Test would be a 'remote' indicator of the outcome of IIT-JEE later," said Khandelwal.
For instance, the entrance test conducted by Resonance comprises an Aptitude Test designed to test the competitive quotient, analytical aptitude and intelligence level of student. Questions are asked from maths, mental ability, science (physics and chemistry. The three hour test on objective pattern with negative marking will be conducted at 30 test centres across the country at the same time. An Optical Response Sheet (ORS) is used to mark the answers by the student. It is scanned and checked by computer-based software for the final result.
Khandelwal points out that there are several aspects to keep in mind while choosing an institute for the two-year preparatory course. First and foremost is the faculty, as understanding of concepts is the important key to crack this exam. Secondly the institute should have a proper plan of how to deliver the topics with adequate weightage on the chapters. Third is the competition. Students should compare their performance amidst students across country so that they can feel confident. Fourth are the results. It is better to ask some seniors who have studied in a coaching class to get a true picture and the focus should be on whether a student was elated by his result.

No AIEEE, IIT JEE and other Entrance Exams by 2013
No AIEEE, IIT JEE and other Entrance Exams by 2013
By 2013, there will only be one single examination for entrance to engineering and medical colleges in the country. Said Union HRD minister Kapil Sibal.
The plan to have a common, single examination for all medical and engineering colleges means creating a test on the lines of the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) conducted in the United States.Gradually, such an exam would be extended for entry to colleges of other disciplines, such as law.
Currently, each state holds separate entrance tests for admissions to engineering courses while the IITs and NITs have separate tests. Similarly, there are multiple examinations for admissions into medical colleges held by the centre and states.
The HRD ministry feels that a common entrance test will smoothen the admission process as students will not end up having to write exams repeatedly. A task force to work out the modalities will be set up by the ministry.
