DU to oversee all sports admissions

DU to oversee all sports admissions

For the first time ever, the students seeking admissions through sports quota to Delhi University will have to undergo a centralised sports trial this year.
In a bid to make the admissions more transparent, the trials will be conducted by the varsity itself.
“We have often received complaints about colleges giving backdoor entries to non-deserving candidates and the truly deserving ones feel shortchanged. The centralised trials will help curb this,” said Novy Kapadia, Deputy Proctor who is also on the committee that is deciding the rules and regulations for trials.
“Centralised trials will also mean students will not have to run from one college to another and can also avoid the clash of dates.”
The trials are slated to begin from the third week of June and will be conducted from Monday to Saturday. Once the colleges receive applications from the candidates, they will forward the names to the central committee conducting the trials. The candidate will then be screened on their level of representation.
“The minimum level of representation will be the zonal level. The maximum will be representing the country at the international level,” Kapadia said.
The committee is yet to decide whether the colleges or the university will screen the certificates. After the trials, the students will be graded by experts and they will need to score a minimum of 40 per cent.
The central committee would then send the marks to the colleges based on which they will grant admission to the students. The trials will be conducted in the different varsity colleges but the timings have not been decided as yet.
“It depends on the availability of venues most of which will remain occupied due to the Commonwealth Games,” Kapadia said.
