UG courses syllabi for DU to be approved by panel next week
New Delhi: The Academic Council of the Delhi University (DU) will be holding a special meeting on May 13 to discuss the approval of the syllabi of over 12 courses.
The admission procedure to undergraduate courses at DU is slated to begin from May 28. The printing of prospectuses has been delayed at several colleges due to the uncertainty of the number of courses that would be offered and their respective syllabi under the new semester system being implemented at the university.
The semester system would not be implemented this year for all courses and programmes being offered at the university because their syllabi have not yet been prepared.
"Because the work on the syllabus has not yet been completed, the university is not implementing the semester system for humanities and social sciences courses this year," Deepak Pental, Vice Chancellor of DU had said.
The Academic Council in 2003 had made it mandatory for the syllabi of courses to be peer-reviewed. Nonetheless, none of the syllabi by the Faculty of Sciences has yet been reviewed.
The syllabus also has to be approved by the Standing Committee on Academic Council before it is sent to the Council for approval. As the Council meeting is scheduled to be held in just four days, the Standing committee may not have enough time to review the syllabi.
The subjects that will be reviewed for approval at the Academic Council meeting on May 13 include B.Sc. (Honors) in Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Geology, Bio-Medical Sciences and Nursing as well as MA in Russian Studies and Master of Business Economics.
