It's the time of entrance exam crawl
Bangalore: In this season of entrance exams, students heaved a sigh of relief on Sunday, having gotten two crucial exams out of the way. The Comed-K UGET for entry to the prestigious engineering, medical and dental colleges, and CLAT for entry to the country’s premier law colleges including the National Law School of India University, Bangalore.
Around 850 law aspirants appeared for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), while a whopping 66,408 took the undergraduate entrance test conducted by the Consortium of Medical Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (Comed-K).
In the CLAT exam, majority of students found the General Knowledge section tough. “The paper was not so tough. However, the GK section had many questions related to dates. There were few questions related to current affairs. The reasoning questions also evaluated legal knowledge. One cannot solve few questions without knowing the legal aspects,” says Anindita M, a candidate.
Most students said they found the Mathematics section the easiest. “The section had elementary mathematics. There was more focus on knowledge of law, rather than the ability to apply it in a specific context in the legal reasoning section,” says Tejaswini Ramkumar, another candidate.
The 120-minute paper comprised 200 questions from General Knowledge, Mathematics, English, Logical Reasoning and Legal Aptitude. Experts claimed that an above-average student could crack the paper. “Most students could finish the paper in 90 minutes; this confirms the paper was easy. The Quantitative Aptitude, English and Logical Aptitude were easy. However, Legal Aptitude was relatively difficult; a number of question related to dates in history were asked,” says Srinivas Belvi, academic director, Career Launcher.
Many outstation candidates appeared for the test at the Bangalore Centre. For most, it wasa tough choice: “My nephew could not take the Comed-K. Today, he was forced to choose, and he chose CLAT,” says Biren HS, who accompanied his nephew from Ranchi in Jharkhand.
“Courses like engineering have lost their charm. Admission in a premier law school like NLSIU-B is more sought-after, as lawyers get an attractive pay package,”says Ramprasad S, a candidate’s parent. Experts say those scoringover 155can expect an interview call. Results will be out on May 29.
