Studying abroad can open new career doors

Study abroad gives students the opportunity to be exposed to a new way of thinking and doing things. They can gain a different perspective on the world and their place by experiencing the ‘other’ and jumping outside of their comfort zone. Attending college is an experience that can shape students into professionals for their careers. But now, studying abroad while in college is preparing students to work in global industries and learn skills they are unable to learn in a classroom.
We always talk about the global market place and the international market and how everything is really interconnected in today’s economy. Well, it’s one thing to talk about it in the classroom, read about it in books and learn about it – it’s a completely different experience to really experience it for yourself.
We always hear students say they wish they could study abroad again because of how beneficial it is and how much they learn, which is why colleges implemented the study tour for students into the curriculum.
Programs of approximately 16 weeks give students ample time to get acclimated to their new environment, establish relationships, network and live life as a local might. Semester-long study abroad programs also allow students to enroll in a full-time load of classes that closely aligns with their degree and academic interests.
Study abroad students are already differentiating themselves from 90 percent of their peers when they enter the job market, having the initiative and courage to study abroad is seen as a plus to employers in the hiring process.
