Australia vs Canada- What’s right for me

“The Land Down under” means Australia, “The Land of Maple” means Canada, these two are the erstwhile British colonies of India with having a lot in common in respect to democracy, a diverse society, and a vibrant economy.

Over time these two have become an ideal destination of study for students from all over the nation. And the reason behind this is attributes like developed economies, welcoming citizens, state-of-the-art education systems, healthcare, and balanced social life. Promiscuous opportunities are also being provided by these two countries for higher studies as well as for immigrating folks looking for greener pastures. High skilled and valuable immigrants are always welcomed here. These countries happily welcome them with open arms. But the Indian students are still in abeyance about whether they should go to Australia or should they pursue their higher education from Canada.

We have written this blog to help you with choosing the best for the future and that suits you better. One’s decision should always be based on the kind of education they want, the type of climate you are suitable with, and the kind of culture you can mingle with. Now lets us know more about these two countries in brief.

Quality of education

These two countries are providing almost the same kind of education or we can say that the quality of education is synonymic. If we look at statistics data so, there are five Australian and two Canadian Universities that are on the list of the top 50 QS World University Ranking 2020. Universities like the Australian national university, the University of Melbourne, the University of Queensland, the University of new south wales, and the University of Sydney assure world-class education in Australia. Universities in Canada such as the University of Toronto, University of British Columbia, University of Alberta, McGill university, and the university of Montreal provide the best pedagogic system in the world.

·        Affordability- Australia VS Canada:  if we talk about affordability criteria so in this case, the pan of Canada is heavy. To hold a UG and PG degree in Country Canada, the average tuition fees that students have to pay is ₹7 lakhs-₹21 lakhs and ₹11 lakhs-₹ 25 lakhs respectively. Whereas the tuition fees that Country Australia charges from students for UG and PG courses are ₹11 lakhs- ₹23 lakhs and ₹14 lakhs-₹ 26 lakhs respectively.

·        Eligibility- Australia VS Canada: On the yardstick of eligibility, country Australia stands high in respect to UG courses, as it provides an option to be being eligible for the UG admission process with just 12 years of pre-university education. On the contrary country, Canada requires an additional eligibility criterion where the candidates have to appear for SAT exams. And for PG courses country, Canada holds the flag, in-country Canada the demands are very low especially for admission in professional courses though they only require GMAT and GRE scorecards for MBA and Science programs. Whereas country Australia requires three-year of UG degree for most of the PG programs except Engineering, which requires a four-year graduate degree. And they require you to appear in GMAT and GRE for getting into MBA and science programs.

·        Scholarships- Australia VS Canada: The government of both the countries as well as their Universities provides competent scholarships based on their merit, financial condition, achievements, etc. Scholarships provided in Canada include the Ontario Graduate Scholarship Program, Canada Asia-Pacific Awards, Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute, National Research Council of Canada, and Quebec Provincial Government Scholarship among others. In-country Australia, the country and its government provide numerous scholarships in the form of easy loans, grants, and fellowships. Australian scholarships include the Australian Awards Scholarships, Endeavour PG Scholarship Awards, University of Adelaide Ashok Khurana Scholarship for Indian Students, Australia Leadership Awards, and University of Sydney International Research Scholarship among other

Cost of Education

The cost of education in the country depends upon its standard of living indices. And this can vary from country to country depending upon the region and the institutions. Other than tuition fees the cost of education also comprises the living expense such as habitation, transportation, and food, etc. if we calculate so the approximate cost of education in Canada is Rs 33 lakhs whereas in Australia the cost of education is around Rs 37 Lakhs. Hence Canada will be reliable and wise when it comes to cost-efficiency. You can opt for Australia if prices don't matter for you.

Ease of living

If we focus on the ease of living in both the countries i.e Australia and Canada, then first it needs to be known that Australia has consistently ranked amongst the top five nations in the World Ease of Living Index due to high-level economic development, qualitative and liberal educational system, and diverse society, Australia provides better quality of living, But Canada is not any less in any terms in comparison. It is a diverse country with a glorious and vibrant economy. Yet Canada stands out when comparison based on affordability and social services.

Job Opportunities

Australia and Canada offer unaccountable job opportunities to the candidates. Both the countries are known to have stable economies. If talking about their rate of unemployment then it is very low in comparison to their peers. In most cases, we can see that they depend on the jobs that are in demand in a particular country.

In Canada professionals who are in good demand are program analysts, pharmacists, financial managers, construction managers, etc. in Australia professionals who are in good demand are lawyers, core sector engineers, aircraft ground staff, operations and maintenance staff, bankers, and financial managers miners, and bio-technician.

Further if mentioning the post-study work permits then Canada offers a Post Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) for three years to their students where they can work and can gain experience in the Canadian job market. As so in Australia, you can also get a post-study permit for two to four years with the skillset and qualification.

Ease of Immigration

Both the countries happily welcome their immigrants always. Because of countries' highly developed economies and a good amount of population, they're in great demand for high and medium- skilled workers in both countries. Till considering the processing time of visa and Permanent Residency (PR) application, Canada is ahead of Australia in this context.

If you want to get PR a little early then Canada will be the best option because the Canadian government has a lenient immigration policy and offers Permanent Residency after two years of work experience. whereas Australia offers Permanent Residency after a minimum of three to four years.

Climate

The climatic condition of both the countries differs a lot.  Country Canada has experienced all kinds of weather conditions in its different parts. The southern border area of Canada is warmer whereas the northern part of Canada is extremely cold, with summer lasting only for two months. So, because of this, almost all Canadians prefer to live near the southern border.  The west coast of Canada is rainy and temperate. It rarely snows except in the mountains. Summers are hot and humid whereas winters are cold and snowy.

The temperature difference can be measured as 26 degrees and 0 degrees in winters and summer.

So, this was all about Canada, now let's come to Australia, the northern and southern part of the country differs a lot, the northern section has a more tropical influenced climate, hot and humid in summer, and quite warm and dry in winter, while the southern parts are cooler with mild summers and cool, sometimes rainy in winters.

The seasons are the opposite in both the hemispheres, i.e. northern and southern, December and January are the hottest months, and July and August are the coldest, when it's summer in the north, its winter in the south of the Equator.

Hence, I suggest opting for Australia if you like summer and sunshine and if you are a winter and snow lover and acclimatized then go for Canada.

We hope that this article was helpful for you!
