Medical innovations needed to help India improve health care
New Delhi: Advancements in technology and scientific research in India should translate into medical innovations, so that India can significantly improve its health care sector in the next 25-odd years, a senior official has said.
"India has the potential to significantly improve health care in the next 25 to 30 years provided it steps up capacity for generating and translating scientific and technological advancements intomedical innovations," said M.K. Bhan, secretary in the department of biotechnology.
Building an abundant pool of inter disciplinary scientists and supportive regulatory environment that is conducive to building intellectual property are two key elements, Bhan said at a function at the Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI) on Monday evening.
Bhan, who is also THSTI chairman, said, "India will develop a new breed of scientists and researchers who are adept at the cutting edge of basic research, life sciences and drug discovery on one hand and possess the ability to work with global drug makers to create vaccines for diseases and rare medical conditions."
