New IITs can award engineering degrees now

In a recent passed by Parliament on Monday, the new Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) now can grant engineering degrees to pass outs.
Passed by Rajya Sabha by voice vote on Monday, the Institute of Technology (Amendment) Bill, 2010, was passed along with the National Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Bill, 2010.
As per this recent amendment, Indian Institutes of Technology in Bhubaneshwar, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Indore, Jodhpur, Mandi, Patna, Ropar and Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) make it to the list of IITs and can now grant engineering degrees to students.
