ISB to extend placement
The Indian School of Business had a better placement season this season compared with last year. The number of companies coming to the campus increased by about 30 per cent.
The number of offers too increased 30 per cent, according to ISB dean Ajit Rangnekar.
Addressing the students at the ninth graduation day on Saturday, he said the school would extend the placement season for some more time.
“ISB follows rolling placement. It is not possible to accommodate all students and companies by March 31,” he said.
The rolling placements would give students and the companies more time for decision making, he said.
ISB would offer PhD course shortly. The research would focus on Indian case studies.
The school would also absorb more faculty and promote entrepreneurship. It would also evolve a mechanism to promote continuous learning to the alumni.
The Class 2004 contributed for Alumni Endowment Fund to set it rolling. The ISB board agreed to match the contribution.
The school, which turns 10 this December, has already started attracting faculty from foreign university for research.
Union minister of Human Resources Development Kapil Sibal urged students to re-examine the concept of wealth and reflect on how capital was to be used not for just building the balancesheet but also for building social capital.
In all, 568 students graduated. The Scholar of Excellence was jointly shared by Gaurav Punia and Rahul Garg for their consistent academic achievement.

ISB collaborates with peers to enhance B-school education
ISB collaborates with peers to enhance B-school education
Hyderabad-based Indian School of Business (ISB) plans to organise workshops for other B-school faculty in a bid to enhance management education in the country.
The workshops will vary in scope and address different aspects of management education from classroom content to delivery. Workshops planned include those in case teaching and simulations, as well as those in the functional topics, such as the just-concluded workshop on marketing analytics.
As part of the initiative, it recently organised a management workshop in the area of marketing analytics in which over 50 faculty members from across 25 leading b-schools in the country participated. The workshop was led by Gary Lilien from the US’ Pennsylvania State University.
“This is one of the many programmes that are needed to enhance management education in India so that the foreign b-schools look to us for management education and teaching and imbibe global best practices, collaborate, network, and share their classroom experiences,” says Professor Arun Pereira, Head - Initiative for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, ISB.
ISB now plans another such programme for case teaching that will be led by Canada’s University of Western Ontario later this year. Moreover, it aims to have such programmes in functional areas like finance, human resource, accounting and operations and any other function that offers a new pedagogy. “We will write to deans of B-schools to nominate their faculty for these programmes and this will be an ongoing process,” adds Pereira.

SB ties up with MIT Sloan School of Management
ISB ties up with MIT Sloan School of Management
The MIT Sloan School of Management (SSM), one of the five schools of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (US), will be an associate school of the Indian School of Business for its upcoming campus at Mohali near Chandigarh.
The Mohali campus would be ready in two years and the first batch of admissions are likely to happen from 2012.
ISB had been ranked in the top 12 B-schools globally by the Financial Times. Dean Ajit Rangnekar announced the MIT Sloan news in the presence of David Schmittlein, his counterpart at the latter. The new alliance of ISB coincides with the graduation ceremony of Class 2010 on Saturday.
Rangnekar said the ISB would also set up the BML Munjal Institute for Manufacturing Excellence and Innovation and the Punj Lloyd Institute for Infrastructure Management at Mohali.
SSM joins the leagues of The Wharton School, The Kellogg School of Management and London Business School (LBS), with which ISB has partnered for several years.
Rangnekar told journalists the association with MIT would give an impetus to research, particularly in management and infrastructure. There would be no financial commitment on either side and the alliance would help the two B-schools to be focused on research and promote faculty and student exchange programmes, he said. MIT, as an associate school of ISB, would have a role in curriculum development and faculty support.
