Introduction


The Sydenham College of Commerce & Economics was the first Commerce and Economics College to be established in India. In keeping with the rich tradition of imparting high quality education, the Sydenham Institute of Management Studies, Research & Entrepreneurship Education (SIMSREE) was founded in the year 1984. Since then, SIMSREE has endeavored to produce global managers of shining excellence.

Today, 20 years after its inception, SIMSREE stands as one of the most popular management institutes in India. MASTER OF MANAGEMENT STUDIES (MMS)

Master of Management Studies is a 2-year full time management Programme offered by the University of Mumbai.

Admission Procedure for MMS

Admissions to MMS are done through the Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Government of Maharashtra.
The CET for admissions for the batch 2005-07 was held on February 27, 2005.
All candidates who satisfy the eligibility criteria have to undergo a 3 -tier selection procedure consisting of :

Common Entrance Test (CET)
Group Discussion (GD)
Personal Interview (PI).

The CET is a multiple-choice objective test evaluating the aptitude in verbal ability, quantitative aptitude, logic, visual reasoning, reading comprehension and data interpretation.

The total marks are 240, and the weightage given is as follows


Written Test : 200 marks
Group Discussion : 17 marks
Personal Interview : 17 marks
Past Academic Record : 4 marks
Work Experience : 2 marks


Fees: The fees for the Academic year 2005-06 is Rs. 32,000/-
The fees should be paid by a Demand Draft drawn in favour of Director, Sydenham Institute of Management Studies

POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN BUSINESS MANAGEMENT (PGDBM)

Admission Procedure for PGDBM


a) Intake Capacity for the PGDBM Course is SIXTY (60) only.
b) An Objective Type Common Written Test (C.W.T.) of Two hours duration carrying 200 marks will be conducted by the Sydenham Institute of Management Studies and Research and Entrepreneurship Education (SIMSREE), B-Road, Churchgate, Mumbai – 400020.

The Written Test would be based on English Comprehension and Grammar, Arithmetic, Algebra and Geometry, Elementary Calculus, General Awareness & Knowledge about Indian/Global Economy, Indian / Global Business / Industry and Logical Reasoning etc.

Fees: The fees for admission to Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management for the academic year 2005-06 is Rs. 32,000/-
ELIGIBILITY

A candidate who has either passed with minimum 50% of marks in the aggregate (45% in case of candidates domiciled in Maharashtra and belonging to the Reserved Categories) or appeared at the Final Year Examination of a post 10 + 2 course of minimum three years duration leading to an award of a Bachelor’s Degree, in any discipline of a Statutory University in India (so recognized by the Association of Indian Universities) or has passed with minimum 50% of marks in the aggregate (45% in case of candidates domiciled in Maharashtra and belonging to the Reserved Categories ) or appeared at an examination considered equivalent thereto would be treated as eligible for Common Entrance Test (CET).

PLACEMENTS


Sydenham Institute of Management had its Placement Week from the 3rd to the 8th of January. In these six days over 70 companies visited the campus making a total of 108 offers.

The highest offer accepted on campus was Rs. 6.9 Lakhs per annum
Lowest offer accepted on campus was Rs. 2.7 Lakhs per annum.
The average salary for the batch is Rs. 4.5 Lakhs per annum.

Recruiters:

The major recruiters were banks that recruited one fourth of the batch. Another 25 % of the students were selected by companies in the manufacturing sector while consultancy firms took 10 % of the batch. Rests of the students were picked up by IT, Telecom & financial services companies. Some of the big companies that visited the institute this year were McKinsey Knowledge Centre, J.P. Morgan Chase, Citibank, ABN Amro, ICICI Bank, Orange, TCS, Mastek, HCL, Sonata, BASF, Essar, Ceat, Sterlite, Gammon India and Sahara India.
