CAT 2013 score discrepancy: Candidates to take legal action; gathers political support from AAP

Unsatisfied over the inaction of CAT 2013 authorities and test taking agency Prometric, agitated students have now decided to file a Public-Interest Litigation (PIL) today. “We may file six to seven PILs across the country,” said a discontented CAT aspirant.
A group of 15-20 students met CAT 2013 Convenor Rohit Kapoor at the IIM Indore campus on Monday. “Professor Kapoor asked us to file RTI. He also said Prometric only provides scaled scores. Last year too, candidates had filed RTI asking for raw and scaled scores from IIM Kozhikode without any fruitful results. Moreover, this entire process will take time. So we have decided to take legal action,” said the candidate.
The students are demanding four things:

• Raw scores of both sections
• Re-evaluation of CAT results 2013
• Detailed explanation of normalisation and scaling
• Stay on IIMs short listing

Professor Kapoor had already informed Shiksha.com that the complain mails are being collated and sent to Prometric for re-evaluation. When we spoke to him again today, he said, “Due large volumes of mails received from different Email IDs from several corners of the country, we are now only collating unique cases and sending to Prometric. So far we have seen only about 1,000 unique cases.”
When asked about the probability of mistakes made by Prometric, Professor Kapoor said, “Everything is being done through computer algorithm. It cannot distinguish between two humans. It is based on responses captured by a machine and not a manual exercise.”
Meanwhile, more than 5,000 people have signed an online petition. Students are also protesting in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Ranchi, Indore and Lucknow. The protests have also received the support of Aam Admi Party (AAP). “AAP has expressed support in our cause,” said a hopeful candidate.
Top lawyers from across the country have expressed interest to take up the case for free.
