Mumbai University makes more mistakes
Mumbai: The Mumbai University, which has been in the news for several goof-ups since the exams started this year, is at fault again.
Students alleged that on Friday, the university’s Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL) forgot to allot exam supervisors.
Nearly 200 students of IDOL, who were appearing for the first year bachelor of arts exam on Friday, found there were no supervisors in the applied psychology block, which had been allotted as their exam centre.
The exam was scheduled to start at 3pm, but the question papers did not come till about 3.45 pm. When the university realised its goof-up, all the students were transferred to another building.
“The exam started around 4 pm in the lecture hall,” said Santosh Gangorde, a student, who informed the university there were no supervisors on duty. IDOL officials blamed the students, saying they were in the wrong place.
The officials said the students’ centre had been marked as the university’s lecture hall. But students said the hall ticket did not mention the lecture hall as the centre.
In another incident, a first year student of BA missed her exam on Friday due to confusion about the exam centre. Priya R, also a student IDOL, alleged that her exam centre was changed by the university at the last moment.
She said when she got the hall ticket on April 26, she was asked to check the university website for her centre name. “When I checked the website on April 28, it said my centre is at Elphinstone College. But on Friday, when I reached the college, I was informed that the college was not a centre for BA exams,” Priya said, adding that she asked her brother to check the university website. “On Friday, the website said my exam centre was at Ruia College. Because of this chaos, I missed my paper,” claimed the student.
An IDOL official said the student may not have checked the website properly.
