378 students of IIM Ahmedabad bag summer placements from 110 firms


Altogether 378 students of the 2013-15 Postgraduate Program (PGP) batch of the premier Indian Institute of Management Ahmadabad (IIM Ahmadabad) have bagged summer internship placements from 110 firms, as per the institute’s summer placements report released on Friday, January 17, 2014. The report, which was issued in accordance with the Indian Placement Reporting Standard, further states that 23.81% of the offers were made for consulting jobs, 20.9% for finance jobs and 18.78% for sales/marketing jobs.
As per the report, 81 offers came from the Consulting sector, 71 offers were made by the Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) sector, 50 from the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector and 46 from conglomerates.
India based internship offers were made to 338 students and 21 students received overseas offers, out of which 9 will be based in South-east Asia, 8 in West Asia, 2 in Europe and 2 in the Americas. Several investment research positions at diverse international locations were offered by Altisource-Ocwen.
Many students received offers from global I-banks such as Merrill Lynch, Bank of America, Citibank, Barclays, RBS and Nomura. Offers came from financial institutions and banks such as World Bank, Goldman Sachs, DBS Banking Group, American Express, Standard Chartered, Axis Bank, etc.
In the Consulting domain, Boston Consulting Group (BCG), Bain and Company, Booz and Company, A.T. Kearney, Accenture Management Consulting, McKinsey and Company, etc. extended lucrative offers. Conglomerates such as Tata Administrative Services (TAS), GE, Aditya Birla Group, CK Birla, Mahindra, Reliance, etc. offered placements for management leadership programs.
Firms from the Consumer Goods and Services sector such as Pepsi, Hindustan Unilever, ITC, HUL, Mondelez, Coke, Asian Paints, Airtel, Johnson & Johnson, etc. made offers.
Offers came from firms in the Pharmaceuticals sector as well. Such companies were Dr Reddy’s, Abbott, Cipla, etc.
From the Technology, Internet and e-Commerce sector, Google, Infibeam, Flipkart, Amazon, Intel, Philips, Microsoft, etc. extended offers. These companies recruited students for roles such as business development, project management and operations.
Few students opted to take up internships in regulatory or social roles with organizations including Anandwan, Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), etc. Some students joined internship programs in start-up companies.
As per officials of the institute, several top companies have been eager to employ interns from IIM Ahmedabad, which reflects the high standard of education maintained by the institute. It is important to note that IIM Ahmedabad features among the top 39 business schools (B-schools) in the world which are considered elite, as per the QS Global Business School Report 2013.
