'Top 10 study abroad destinations for students across the world'

They say grass is always greener on the other side of fence. This proverb holds truth as there are a huge number of students who go abroad for further studies. In 2007, over 2.8 million students were enrolled in institutions outside their country of origin. According to a data complied by a leading magazine in education sector, the number of mobile students across the globe has grown by 53 per cent in 1999 and by 2.5 times since 1975. These statistics say India and China have the largest pool of outbound students.
When it comes to favourite destinations, the USA wins hands down. While nearly 4,21,148 Chinese students go abroad, 24 per cent of them go to the USA to pursue higher studies. The US is also the first choice for close to 86,000 Indian students. Australia and UK are the next preferred destinations with 24,523 and 23,833 students respectively.
It is interesting to note that maximum students from East Asia and the Pacific prefer going to US for higher studies. Even India played host to nearly 8,000 foreign students in 2006.
