CATE form sales may exceed 10,000 mark
New Delhi: The Delhi University (DU) administration has revealed that the sale of application forms for the Common Aptitude Test for English (CATE) may exceed the 10,000 mark this year, even though the last date for sale and submission of the forms is today.
The administration has revealed that over 8,500 application forms have already been sold for CATE and that as the sale of forms ends today, there may be a last minute rush for buying them. The CATE entrance test is held for 500 seats in 17 colleges for the much coveted English (Honors) course at DU.
Sumanyu Satpathy, Head of the Department of English at DU said that the sale of forms had crossed last year's figure on Friday itself and nearly 2000 more forms were sold on Saturday.
"The total number of forms that have been sold till now is above 8,500 and we are expecting that it will cross the 10,000 mark this year," said Satpathy.
Although the forms were only sold at the Faculty of Arts building last year, this year, the forms have been made available at the campuses of all colleges that are participating.
The number of forms that were sold last year was 7,000, out of which 6,500 forms were submitted and 6,000 students had appeared for the entrance test. This year, the sale of forms has seen a rise in number due to more colleges participating and also because the registration fee is to be deposited at the time of sale of the form.
Sought after colleges that are admitting students to their English (Honors) courses via CATE this year include Hindu College, Miranda House, Indraprastha College and Lady Sri Ram College.
The CATE examination itself would be held on June 9. There were several changes made to the examination format this year. A new 30 minute elimination round has been introduced which will have multiple choice questions. There will also be a comprehensive test of one hour duration after the elimination round. The comprehensive answer sheets of only those students will be evaluated who have cleared the elimination round.
