BEd colleges to hike fee by Rs 5K
JAIPUR: A section of BEd colleges affiliated to Rajasthan University has decided to increase fee by Rs 5,000 from the forthcoming academic session. Recently, the BEd Colleges Association (BCA) had requested education minister Master Bhanwar Lal Meghwal to approve the proposed fee hike. It had proposed to hike the fee from Rs 22,429 to Rs 27,429 to meet the growing expenses on account of Sixth Pay Commission.
Navrang Chaudhary, president, BCA, said, "We are not different from schools and other colleges who raised their fee due to revised pay scale. We are struggling to maintain quality in the existing fee structure. We will hold demonstrations if our demands are not met."
BEd colleges have not hiked their annual fee since 2006-07. There are about 400 BEd colleges associated with Rajsthan University in seven districts. Other BEd associations are also backing the move. They are of the opinion that it is very tough to meet the standards set by RU in the existing fee structure. Some colleges were forced to reduce facilities and staff strength due to financial crunch, they said.
A government official said it is impossible for the government to accept their demands. If the government accepts the demands, it will invite criticism from lakhs of students, he said.
